Safeguarding:
For advise and guidance when dealing with a Safeguarding issue all volunteers must contact the Hujjat Designated Officer.
Designated Officer: Kassam Jaffer
Deputy: Zameer Nazarali

During Madressa hours if you have a concern regarding a child's welfare you may contact:
Shenazbai Dhalla (KPS)
Mumtazbai Jivraj (Stanmore): Child Welfare Coordinator (CWC)
You may also speak to a member of the Administration team or your HOD in confidence.

Tip:
There tends to be at least one 'tough kid' in class who perhaps doesn't respond as well as their peers, seems disinterested, distracted or is perhaps even disruptive.

Well, here's a strategy on how you can engage with them:

Be a Mentor:
Children that may be acting out to receive attention, good or bad, want someone to notice them and take an interest in them as an individual.
A teacher is not there just to help their student develop academically, but our Islamic practices and traditions encourage us to also assist in their social, emotional and physical development. Make an effort to show that you care about your students as an individual person, not just about them as a collective group or just about their end of year results.
Be proactive instead of reactive. The key to being a good mentor is to be positive, available, and trustworthy. One year with a great mentor can have a lasting, positive impact on a 'tough kid's' life.

Teachers Training:

A Teachers Training has been organised on Friday 24th October 2014 from 7:30pm - 10:00pm. An opportunity not to be missed. Please RSVP your attendance here. Below is a summary of the training.

Inspiring Attention
Traditionally, teacher training has focused on how to get students to focus and take part in adult-led activities. This training will encourage us to reflect on how we can inspire students to attend, rather than comply, by asking ourselves, "is it worth it for the child to attend to our chosen activity?"

The session will cover:

  • The developmental stages of attention
  • Ideas to capture attention
  • Positive adult-child interaction
  • Emotional development and attachment-their impact on learning and attention
  • Communication & Behaviour
