Dear respected parents/ guardians/teachers,
Salaamun Alaykum
The PCB would like to welcome you all back to another new year at our Madressa. We pray you have all had a restful winter break, inshallah, and that we are all ready for a wonderful start to the term.
As we commence the second year of our three-year appointment, I would like to give you an insight into some of the things that the PCB have been involved in over the past twelve months. Apart from familiarising ourselves with the running of Madressa, the PCB have been very busy assisting SIM put together Madressa policies, addressing any parental issues, concerns and suggestions, helping to organise the Annual Charity Bake Sale, attending Admin and Teacher Workshops and of course, organising the Teacher/Volunteer Appreciation Event at the end of the Year.
Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon
We would like to formally thank all parents who came forward and helped in different ways; whether through financial or food contributions, by assisting with preparation of the gifts for teachers and volunteers or by helping serve and clean up on the day of the event. We couldn't have done it without your help.
The event was well attended by both teachers and volunteers as well as respective guests including Sheikh Mohamed Abbas Panju and our President, Mustafa Jaffer. Included in the programme for the event were brief speeches by the PCB Chair and our special guests, a slide show featuring a snapshot of all the activities taking place on a typical Sunday at Madressa involving students at both sites, teachers, volunteers and members of the Admin team and a video recording by some students thanking the teachers and volunteers .
The event concluded with a full course lunch funded by parents and private donors and all teachers and volunteers present received a gift handmade by the PCB team itself! We received a lot of positive feedback and appreciation messages from the teachers and volunteers who were quite touched by the event.
Future Initiatives
This year, the PCB plan to take on some new initiatives which will specifically benefit our children (more details to follow soon). We look forward to once again receiving your support and encouragement to make these happen. Furthermore, if you have any ideas or suggestions please contact us on pcb@madressa.net or you simply want to help and be involved, please also get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.

Disability Awareness Day by Sr. Azra Hassanali
Following the success of last year’s disability awareness day for Class 5, the Learning Support Department at Kenmore organised another awareness day but for Class 4. The 4 classes (2 boys and 2 girls) spent 20 minutes and each of 5 stations learning more about the following disabilities: Downs Syndrome, Hearing Impairment, Physical Disability, Autism and Developmental Delay. Each station included an introduction to the disability, a video clip or powerpoint presentation and an activity or discussion. The talks were given by Learning Support Assistants from our team, including parents of children with disabilities.
Alhamdulillah, we received wonderful feedback from students and teachers who all listened attentively to all our speakers and took part in discussions and activities enthusiastically. Here are some photos from the day, including links to the video clips we showed. Please do take some time to watch them again with your children, using the learning points to generate discussion about the day.

Thank You & Farewell
On another note, one of our PCB members, Br Ali Haji, has moved to Essex and owing to the distance, is unfortunately unable to continue his role as a member of the PCB. Br Ali has made a great contribution to the team over the past year and will be missed. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him all the best in his new location.
