External Message: Ramadhan Giving Calendar
Ramadan is upon us and this year there are many advert calendars on the market focusing on the countdown to Eid and in which as you open the window of the calendar you receive something for yourself .
We felt we should do something different - giving rather than receiving
The Ramadan Giving Calendar does exactly that and we are using this Ramadan as an opportunity to give for 30 days.

We have chosen 2 local charities: Sufra and Who is Hussein.
Sufra NW London (also known as Sufra) is a Community Food Bank & Kitchen, based in the London Borough of Brent, which aims to support disadvantaged families suffering food poverty in the local area. The charity provides local people with food and even basic necessities and toiletries. Since 2014, Sufra has been running Food Academies. Alongside being a charity, it also became a local community centre aiming to bring the community together by running food academies and teaching people to cook. The food bank expanded its services in 2017, with the launch of St. Raphael's Edible Garden, which confronts the causes and effects of poverty in the local community.

Who is Hussain is a non-profit making organisation working in several countries around the world tackling local issues which are apparent in local communities. In London there is a massive issue with Homelessness, up to 4500 people just like me and you sleep rough on the streets of London without access to housing, shelter and food. The Who Is Hussain team in London run a weekly food drive in Charing Cross where we feed, clothe, provide equipment and resources to help support the needs of our neighbours. Your donations will be given out at these weekly sessions and provide the homeless with key necessities.

There are 2 different calendars to choose from depending on the charity you want to support.

Next Steps:
  1. Firstly find a big box or a big bag
  2. Look at both calendars and decide which Charity you would like to support
  3. Print both sheets of your chosen calendar and attach the one with the logo on top of the list so that the list is hidden (more fun for the kids)
  4. on a daily basis either cut along the dotted line or fold back so that the next day is visible.
  5. Put the required donation in the box
  6. At the end of Ramadan (or just before we will sending details of how to drop off your donations.
Tip: as all the goods are non-perishable so you may want to buy them in advance and have them ready in the cupboard - this initiative should not be seen as a 30 day shopping trip.
  7. We also have a Facebook group

  8. Please follow us in FB and share pictures and promote this cause by using the hashtag #ramadangivingcalendar

The perfect accompaniment to your older child’s Laylatul Qadr nights! This journal covers all the main aspects of the amaal, as well as guides them to think about and express their duas to Allah in a methodical way. There is a closer look at the specific amaal of the 23rd night, such as inviting reflection on the 3 suras and duas.
