AGE INTAKE CHANGES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 2016

Written by . Posted in Admissions

Over the past 18 months the Madressa has been reviewing, both internally and in conjuction with educational professionals, the minimum age at which children begin their Madressa education. Historically the minimum age at which a child could be enrolled into the Madressa has been 3 years and 6 months. As a result of this review, all children enrolling from 1 January 2016 onwards will need to have reached a minimum age of 4 years and 3 months (i.e. the child must be at least 4 years of age prior to 1 September 2011) to be eligible to enrol. The main reasons for this change is the: 1. Time taken to settle in children of such a young age bearing in mind the limited teaching weeks available. 2. The ability of young children who have not yet begun school to manage within the Madressa’s structured formal learning environment. This change will be effective for all new admissions for the 2016 academic year, beginning 1 January 2016 and all academic years going forward. As a result of the above the yearly cycle which the Madressa uses to place children in classes will also change from the historical 1 July – 30 June to 1 September – 31 August. This is in order to synchronise how children are placed in their Madressa classes with how they are grouped within their secular schools.  This will ensure all children of the same school year are now in the same class for Madressa purposes. Parents should ensure their contact details are up to date by logging into their parent portal.
